Summary of "Employment Restrictions Ended For Nationals from the Eight New Member States"
Since 1 July 2008, the eight new Member States that joined the European Union on 1 May 2004 have no longer been subject to any transition period. As a result, nationals from these countries can freely settle in France to live and work, without being required to hold a work permit or a residence permit. Romania and Bulgaria remain the only two EU countries subject to a transition period.
