If a foreign national intends to remain in France for more than three months, he/she has to obtain a residence permit (“titre de séjour”) from the French administration. There are two kinds of residence permits: the “carte de séjour temporaire” (temporary, or short-term, residence card) and the “carte de résident” (long-term residence card).
